CityU shines once again in the top 100 universities granted US utility patents by the National Academy of Inventors. CityU is placed 29th in the world, the highest-ever position and 22 places better than last year. Furthermore, CityU is ranked 1st among local institutions for the 6th consecutive year.

Five of the region's most prominent citizens have been appointed to the Council of CityU, effective 1 January 2001. The appointments, for terms ranging from two to three years, were made by Chief Executive Mr Tung Chee-hwa.
