CityUHK believes digital medicine is the future, complementing traditional approaches and offering cost-efficient and sustainable solutions. Last April, CityUHK established the IDM, connecting world-leading academic and research partners, as well as industry and clinical partners, to advance research into integrating life and health technologies, data science and artificial intelligence with medical science and public health.

Leveraging CityUHK’s strengths in engineering, data science and life science, the IDM will empower doctors with advanced technologies and explore the long-term benefits of digital health solutions for patients, further solidifying the IDM’s commitment to the future of healthcare.

Professor Shum (centre) shares CityUHK's experience of connecting with global institutions at the Digital Health Summit.

Professor Anderson Shum Ho-cheung, Vice-President (Research), participated in a fireside chat during the event to share CityUHK's experience in activating a network of interconnected partnerships between academia, government and industry through the IDM. He highlighted how these collaborative innovative partnerships enable the University to reach out to elite global institutions, such as the University of Waterloo for meaningful exchange.

CityUHK signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Waterloo in Canada on 11 April to enhance collaboration on academic and research initiatives, paving the way for groundbreaking advancements in various fields between the two institutions. The MoU was signed by Professor Shum, Dr Charmaine Dean, Vice-President, Research & International, of the University of Waterloo, and Dr Bessma Momani, Associate Vice-President, International, of the University of Waterloo.

Under this new partnership, the two universities aim to merge their academic strengths and drive research innovation globally by exploring collaborative opportunities in a wide array of areas, including developing joint academic and research activities, promoting joint training opportunities for graduate students, enhancing the mobility of faculty, staff and students for academic and research activities, and exchanging information and the results of their research collaboration.
