CityU projects triumph at China Hi-Tech Fair
City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has won five Excellent Product Awards at the 12th China Hi-Tech Fair, highlighting CityU’s innovative research agenda.
The event is the largest and most influential exhibition on science and technology in China and regarded as the foremost exhibition for industry in China.
“We were pleased to participate at China Hi-Tech Fair again this year as we were able to showcase our excellent achievements. Our aim was to promote our outstanding research projects and provide benefits to society,” said Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Acting Vice-President (Research & Technology).
One of the award-winning projects uses smart metering to reduce power costs. It has been developed by Dr Norman Tse Chung-fai, Senior Lecturer in the Division of Building Science and Technology, and Dr Ricky Lau Wing-hong, Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic EngineeringAnother project devised by Dr Tsang Kim-fung, Associate Professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering, allows medical personnel to monitor up to 65,000 patients remotely.
The other three projects are:
- Aerial Holographic Projection project by Dr Peter Tsang Wai-ming, Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering
- WeZOOM-3G Mobile Video Surveillance System for Home and Small Business project by Professor Jia Weijia, Director of the Future Networking Centre, CityU Shenzhen Research Institute and Professor in the Department of Computer Science
- Power Amplifiers for Mobile Phones and Consumer Electronic Appliances project by Professor Xue Quan, Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering
The 12th China Hi-Tech Fair was held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre from 16 to 21 November, attracting around 3,000 organisations from all over the world. CityU displayed 30 high-tech projects, including energy and environmental protection, information technology, electronics and telecommunications, bio-medical technology, new materials and surface science as well as food and environment testing.
This year’s exhibition was coordinated by CityU’s Knowledge Transfer Office and the Shenzhen Research Institute of CityU.
