Devoted students serving the community

Scarlett Leung

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) always encourages staff and students to perform community service through partnerships with different sectors of the community. More than 40 students from the College of Science and Engineering initiated an array of community projects to provide volunteer service to the elderly, mentally handicapped, primary school students and underprivileged families. Funded by CityU’s Department of Physics and Materials Science and Student Development Services, the projects provide an invaluable opportunity for students to improve their interpersonal, organisational and leadership skills.

The caring culture and strong sense of social commitment at the University was shared by another group of 10 students from the College of Business, who participated in ENGAGE “Journey of Opportunity” Action, a community programme that inspires underprivileged youth from Tin Shui Wai to pursue further educational and career opportunities.
