The Council of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) approved at its meeting on 3 July to increase staff salary by 2%, effective 1 July 2007. The pay increase will apply to all staff serving in the University, irrespective of whether they were employed before or after the de-linking of university salaries from the Civil Service in July 2003.

The latest pay rise, which takes into account of a Civil Service pay adjustment, is in addition to an across-the-board 3% pay increase offered in April 2007. The University also boosted staff morale with a productivity award, equivalent to one-third of a member of staff's monthly salary, to all staff in May 2007, and the implementation of a one-off leave encashment scheme, with payment to be made in September 2007.

Salary adjustment for staff serving in the Community College of City University will need to be considered separately by the College Board of Management and the Council.
