CityU Farm Opens!

November 18, 2022

For the first time in several decades, Hong Kong has a new dairy farm! Yesterday, CityU marked the opening of the CityU Farm which currently houses 24 Jersey Heifers imported from Australia in September. Professor Vanessa Barrs, the acting Dean of the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, said the CityU Farm will provide valuable learning opportunities for Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) students in animal handling, animal husbandry and bovine veterinary medicine. BVM students will use the farm during their pre-clinical and clinical years as part of the 6 year course, which is the only veterinary programme offered in Hong Kong. With the first cohort of students graduating in 2023, the CityU Farm is the latest in a series of world class facilities that have been purpose built for student training. The CityU Farm is poised to be a centre of excellence in dairy science and production, with research conducted to tackle the key challenges facing our society including food safety and security, animal welfare and One Health.
