IT Service Support for Macintosh Users

In view of the increasing popularity of Macintosh (Mac) computers in the University, the Computing Services Centre (CSC) has expanded the support to our Mac users.
Following is the list of supported services for Mac computers:
·         Campus Network (CTNET) Connectivity
 
o   Fixed Network Point
It allows Mac users to connect their devices to the CTNET through the wired network. Similar to PCs, a Mac computer connected to the CTNET must be properly registered using an authorized Network Address and a registered network card. Details can be found at

o   CityU Wireless LAN (CityU WLAN)
It allows Mac mobile users to access the CTNET at any location covered by its access points within campus. The setup procedures of this service for Mac computers can be found at

o   CityU Virtual Private Network (VPN)
A point-to-point private link can be established by using the VPN to securely connect your computer to the CTNET from off campus through a shared or public network. The setup procedures of this service for Mac computers can be found at

·         Email Service
 
o   Mac users can download MS Outlook 2016 from their Office 365 accounts for accessing Office 365 ema​il

o   Sending/Viewing Confidential Email with Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac (For Staff only)
Staff using Mac can send/view protected confidential email with MS Outlook 2016 for Mac. Guidelines can be found at

·         Printing Service (For Students Only)
 
o   Quota Controlled Fast Print Queue
It provides a quota-based high-performance printing service in the CSC. The guidelines of this service for Mac users can be found at

·         Software Applications
 
o   Anti-Virus program (For Staff only)
The Central IT has acquired the license of McAfee Endpoint Protection to cover University-owned Mac (iMac, MacBook, Mini/Pro). For departments/staff who wish to borrow the Endpoint software media for installation, please submit an online CSC Work Request. Further reading on McAfee Endpoint Protection for Mac is available at

o   Microsoft Office
All regular staff and students can install and use the latest versions of the Microsoft Office software under Office 365 ProPlus via the University's Enrollment for Education Solutions with Microsoft. This allows each regular staff/student free installation of MS Office software on up to a maximum of five PCs or Macs owned and used by staff and students for their work or study at the University. o   Virtual Desktop Service (VDS)
The VDS caters for the use personal mobile devices for teaching and learning. Users can use their personal mobile devices, such as iPads, tablets and notebook computers, to connect to the VDS via the campus wireless LAN and enjoy a virtual desktop experience similar to working with PCs in the CSC Teaching Studios.

o   VMware Fusion (For Staff only)
This allows your Mac to run Microsoft Windows and Windows applications side-by-side with your favourite Mac applications, and seamlessly share files and folders between Windows and Mac. ·         Teaching Studio
 
o   Teaching Studio AC2-4101 in the CSC is equipped with 30 Apple iMac computers (29 Apple iMac for students and 1 Apple Mac Pro for Instructor) & high-quality projection facilities and is available for teaching purpose.  http://www.cityu.edu.hk/csc/deptweb/facilities/terminal-area/teaching-studio.htm 
 
·         Help and Support for Mac users
 
o   Help desk support from Central IT Services
Help desk is established in the CSC to provide one-stop consultation and technical support service on Central IT Services. Mac users are welcome to contact the same IT help channel that they are familiar with whenever they have questions on using the listed IT services on their Macs .
 
o   FAQs & User Guides for IT Services
A number of FAQs and User Guides can be found on the CSC Web (

The Central IT always adopt recent and suitable IT technologies in our campus environment. We will continue to review and improve the support for Mac computers so as to provide better support to meet the needs of our users.
