The 2024 Annual Conference and a series of activities of the Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance (SHUA) was held at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) from 16 to 19 October 2024. The theme of this year’s Conference was "Developing the Shanghai-Hong Kong Education Ecosystem", focusing on higher education as the foundation for education, science, technology and human resource development. The objective was to strengthen the mechanisms of interaction and cooperation, thereby accelerating the advancement of future science and technology education between universities in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Additionally, the conference aimed to establish a platform for international education exchange and promote collaborative and innovative developments in higher education. Professor LI Juan, Associate Vice-President (Mainland Strategy), along with her team, participated in the conference and facilitated the panel discussion.

Professor CHEN Jun, Vice-President of Hainan University, led a delegation to visit CityUHK on 18 October 2024. They were welcomed by Professor LI Juan, Associate Vice-President (Mainland Strategy), Professor LEUNG Mei-yee, Dean of the School of Energy and Environment, and Professor SIT Patrick, Associate Dean of the School of Energy and Environment. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on inter-university cooperation, academic collaboration and talent training. The delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution (SKLMP).

CityUHK was invited to participate in the "2024 Top 10 Presidents Forum", held in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Insight Media. Professor LU Chun, Vice-President (Mainland Strategy) of CityUHK, represented CityUHK at the forum on 9 October 2024. During the forum, he shared his unique insights and discussed how Hong Kong can leverage its unique advantages by continuously strengthening its internationalisation process and city inclusiveness, thereby promoting the prosperity and development of global academics. Also attending the forum were Dr. Choi Nok-lan, Secretary for Education of Hong Kong, Mr Lester Garson Huang, Council Chairman of CityUHK, and over 300 distinguished guests, fostering an enriching dialogue about the future of higher education in Hong Kong.

Mr Lester Garson HUANG, Council Chairman of CityUHK, together with Provost and Deputy President Professor LEE Chun-sing, presided over a flag-raising ceremony at University Circle on 1 October to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Following the delegation visit to CityUHK by Professor Tian Hui, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ocean University of China, in May this year, Professor LU Chun, Vice-President (Mainland Strategy) of CityUHK, led a delegation to visit the Laoshan Campus of Ocean University of China on 11 September to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two universities, and promote and consolidate the inter-university partnership. They were warmly received by Professor Tian Hui, Secretary of the Party Committee of OUC, Professor Wang Houjie, Vice President, and others. The delegation was accompanied by Professor Ho Yew Kee, Deputy Director of the Graduate School, Professor Guo Yongxin, Director of the Qingdao Innovation Center, and Ms. SNG Jingli, Director of the Office of the President.

The 1st Governing Board Meeting of the Qingdao Innovation Center was held on 10 September 2024 in the West Coast new area of Qingdao. The meeting officially announced the establishment of the Governing Board, and the appointment of the Director, Deputy Director and members of the Secretariat. The board members engaged in thorough and detailed discussions and exchanges on the Center's Articles of Association, organizational structure, financial manual and related matters.

Following the visit to the Global R&D Center of Goertek Inc. on 1 August 2024, Professor LU Chun, Vice-President (Mainland Strategy) of CityUHK, led a delegation to Goertek Dongguan Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. on 3 September for exchanges and discussion on university-enterprise cooperation. They were warmly received by Mr. Kang Chuanyi, General Manager of the South China Platform. The delegation was accompanied by senior management of CityUHK(DG): Mr. ZHAO Yi, Secretary of the Party Branch, Professor LI Juan, Vice-President (Academic), Professor LIU Zishun, Vice-President (Research and Innovation), and Ms. SNG Jingli, Director of the Office of the President of CityUHK.

City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) “(CityUHK(DG))”, held its Grand Opening Ceremony on 2 September. Participating in person to share this joyous occasion were Central government officials, other officials from mainland China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), senior management from the Council, Court and Senate of CityUHK, senior management of CityUHK(DG), students and parents. Today also marks the first school day of CityUHK(DG).

Professor Freddy BOEY, President and University Distinguished Professor of CityUHK, led a delegation to Qingdao and met with officials from the Huangdao District on 2 August 2024. The two parties signed an agreement to establish the CityUHK Innovation Center in Qingdao’s West Coast New Area, with the aim of promoting and implementing collaboration between higher-education institutions in Hong Kong and Qingdao. Leveraging CityUHK's world-renowned academic research achievements and international reputation, the collaboration seeks to complement each other's strengths and cultivate innovation and technology talent in both regions to create synergy.

Professor LU Chun, Vice-President (Mainland Strategy) of CityUHK, led a delegation to visit the Global Research and Development Center of GoerTek Inc on 1 August 2024. The delegation was warmly received by Mr. GAO Xiaoguang, Senior Vice-President, Mr. KANG Chuanyi, General Manager of the South China Platform, and Mr. YU Yang, Deputy Director of Alpha Lab. The two parties conducted in-depth exchanges on employment, internships and practical training for CityUHK students, joint talent cultivation among the University, businesses and the local government, scientific research and project collaboration, and industry-university scholarships.
