Professor Guobin Zhu delivers keynote speech at the national conference on UNGA Resolution 2758

Professor Guobin ZHU, JP, of the School of Law at City University of Hong Kong was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the national conference “United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 2758 and the Taiwan Question: Commemorating the 55th Anniversary of the Adoption of UNGA Resolution 2758”.

The conference, held in Beijing on 14 October 2026, was organised by the Association for the Promotion of Legal Exchanges across the Taiwan Straits of the China Law Society. It brought together nearly 100 experts and scholars from Taiwan-related research units, higher education institutions, and “one country, two systems” research centres in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions. Participants conducted a systematic study of the historical origins and legal binding force of UNGA Resolution 2758 and engaged in in-depth discussions on consolidating the international law foundations of the One-China principle and advancing national reunification through rule-of-law means.

Professor Zhu delivered the keynote address “The Constitutionalisation and Institutionalisation of the One-China Principle and the Experience of Hong Kong and Macao” under the sub-theme “Restoring History: The Complete Picture and Legal Binding Force of UNGA Resolution 2758.” From a constitutional law perspective, he analysed the origins and legal force of Resolution 2758 and, drawing on the practical experience from Hong Kong and Macao, elaborated on the pathways and implications for the institutionalised implementation of the One-China principle at the constitutional level.
