Ubaid Rehman Participated in a Panel on AI and The Future of Legal Training at Techlaw.Fest 2026 in Singapore

Mr Ubaid REHMAN, PCLL Programme Director and Barrister-at-Law, took part in the TechLaw.Fest 2026, held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore on 9-10 September.

Ubaid Rehman (second from right) and fellow panellists discuss the implications of AI for legal education and the future of junior legal work at TechLaw.Fest 2026.

Now in its 11th edition and co-organised by the Singapore Academy of Law and Singapore’s Ministry of Law, the conference brought together more than 2,000 participants from over 30 countries. This year’s theme, “From Foundation to Frontier: The Role of Law Amidst Change,” coincided with the bicentenary of Singapore’s modern legal system.

Ubaid was an invited panellist on a panel titled “Training the AI-Enabled Lawyer: Legal Education, Professional Skills and the Future of Junior Work”. He was joined by academics from Monash University, Hitotsubashi University and the University of the Philippines. The panel explored how legal education should respond as AI changes the work traditionally given to junior lawyers.

Over the two days, Ubaid attended sessions on AI governance and accountability, agentic AI and professional supervision, the changing role of the lawyer, and technology and access to justice. Keynote speakers included Hon Judith COLLINS KC, President of New Zealand’s Law Commission, and Sarah SACKMAN KC MP, UK Minister of State for Justice. He also took part in the ALITA discussion on AI and legal practice and Clio’s Elevate event, and toured the legal tech exhibition floor.
