The Department of Materials Science and Engineering Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships for JUPAS Entrants

Regulations

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering has established a scholarship scheme, “The Department of Materials Science and Engineering Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships for JUPAS Entrants” by use of funding available in the Non-UGC Reserves (Departmental) with effect the 2025/26 academic year under the following regulations:

 

1. The Scholarships shall be known as “The Department of Materials Science and Engineering Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships for JUPAS Entrants”.

2. There shall be a maximum of THREE scholarships per annum.

3. Eligible candidates must fulfil all of the following criteria:

  • Entering through JUPAS on the basis of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) results obtained in the year of admission, and should have placed the Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering programme in Band A of JUPAS choices.
  • Enrolling as a full-time first-year undergraduate student undertaking the Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering programme.
  • The details of the scholarship criteria and value of scholarships are given in the table below:

* The value of scholarships are subject to the actual tuition fee per annum.

4. Candidates who meet the required admission score will be shortlisted and invited for an interview. During the interview, they will be assessed based on their overall academic performance, interview proficiency, and non-academic achievements. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering reserves the right to determine the number of awardees for each academic year.

5. The Scholarships will be temporarily suspended, if the scholarship recipient is on leave of absence. The Department has the right to terminate the Scholarship or request a refund of the scholarship awarded if the scholarship recipient is no longer enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering programme.

6. For each academic year, the scholarship amount shall be disbursed to the duly registered recipients by two equal instalments, one after the full payment of tuition fee for Semester A by December, and the other after the full payment of tuition fee for Semester B by March of the same academic year.

7. In order to be eligible for the renewal of the scholarship in each academic year, the scholarship recipients are required to achieve a minimum CGPA requirement of 3.0 or above by the end of each Semester.

8. Nominations by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering shall reach the Student Development Services on or before mid-November of each year for which the Scholarships are designated.

9. The Scholarships shall be offered annually until further notice is received from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

 

Remarks:

 # Admission score:

1. The admission score is calculated by “Best 5 (include Mathematics)” and “Level 3” for English, Chinese, Mathematics, two elective subjects and “Attained” for Citizenship and Social Development as the minimum entrance requirements of the programme for 2025 JUPAS admission.

       

Notes: “Other Language Subjects” and Mathematics extended modules (M1/M2) are counted as elective subjects. For subjects that a student has attempted more than once, the best result will be used.

3.  JUPAS entrants are allowed to hold Institutional/Dean’s Scholarships and The Department of Materials Science and Engineering Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships for JUPAS Entrants concurrently.

 

Remark

With an objective to nurture our students and to promote caring culture, the University encourages each award recipient to make an annual donation of HK$200 or more to the City University of Hong Kong for student support via CityUHK Alumni Giving Club when they are in employment after graduation. This term has been incorporated into all scholarship/prize/award/bursary schemes since February 2008.
