High Schoolers Dive into Law at our Summer Law Camp
Organised by CityUHK School of Law, the Summer Law Camp for Aspiring Lawyers and Legal Experts took place at Kowloon Tong campus from 21 through 25 July 2025. The Summer Camp was a 5-day programme that aimed to introduce high school students to legal issues, inspire them to study law, and help them understand whether a career in law is suitable for them.
The first day began with an Orientation session, where participants met some of our faculty members. Among them were Professor LIN Feng, Dean and Chair Professor of Basic Law of School of Law, Ms. Anna LUI, LLB Programme Associate Director, Mr. Ubaid REHMAN, PCLL Programme Director, and Professor FANG Meng Mandy, Assistant Professor of the School. The latter two were also part of the Teaching Team of the Summer Camp. The day continued with an introductory session on Hong Kong Legal System & Legal Methods by Mr. Warren SUEN and Ms. Christina LI, barristers from Pacific Chambers.
Over the course of 5 days, participants had the opportunity to learn about various legal concepts including Contract Law, the Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Human Rights Law, and International Law.
Through sessions of engaging interactive activities, participants have honed their abilities in critical thinking, public speaking, and problem-solving, which are fundamental in academic and professional settings. They were also able to put their newly acquired legal knowledge and skills into practice, by participating in a mock trial workshop on the last day of the programme.
In addition to classroom learning, participants were given the chance to get a taste of university life as School of Law students by paying visits to our Law Library and other School facilities.
In his opening address, Prof. LIN Feng gave valuable advice about law. He explained that law is essentially about rules, but the law is not only applied by lawyers. “If you look around, our whole society is governed by law,” said Prof. Lin. He also encouraged the participants to ask questions and participate actively, because “what you will learn as law students are skills. Learning how to interpret the rules of law and how to apply them. These skills are useful because our whole society is governed by law. So in every aspect, in everyday life you will encounter applications of law. Once you know the principles, they will be helpful in every area of your life. Even if you do not pursue a legal career, they are useful in whichever career you pursue in the future.”
We appreciate the positive feedback from the participants and we look forward to launching more outreach and engagement programmes, all designed to inspire and educate future lawyers, judges and advocates.
城大法律學院舉辦之暑期法律訓練營「Summer Law Camp for Aspiring Lawyers and Legal Experts」（暑期訓練營）於7月21日至25日在九龍塘校舍舉行。是次活動爲期5天，旨在向高中生介紹法律問題，激發他們對學習法律的興趣，並幫助他們了解自己是否適合投身法律行業。
暑期訓練營以迎新會展開序幕，參加者在此與本院部分教職員見面，包括法律學院院長兼講座教授林峰教授、法律學學士(Bachelor of Laws)課程副主任呂凱恩女士、PCLL課程主任Ubaid REHMAN先生及助理教授方萌教授。當中Rehman先生和方教授亦有擔任是次活動的教學工作。隨後，當天由太平大律師事務所所屬孫瑋琳大律師和李嘉祈大律師帶來有關香港法律制度與法律方法的入門講座。
在爲期五天的暑期訓練營，參加者學習了合約法（Contract Law）、侵權法（Law of Torts）、刑法（Criminal Law）、人權法（Human Rights Law）和國際法（International Law）等法律概念。
透過一系列强調互動性的教學活動，參加者鍛煉了批判性思維、演講和解決問題的能力。這些都是在學術與職業發展中極其重要的能力。在活動最後一天的模擬法庭練習中，參加者將新掌握的法律知識和技能付諸實踐。
除了課堂學習外，參加者也參觀了法律學院圖書館及其他校園設施，淺嘗作爲法律學院學生的校園生活。
林峰教授在迎新會的開幕致詞中，就法律提出了珍貴的見解。他闡釋說，法律在本質上是關於規則，但法律的運用並不限於律師。林教授如是説：「環顧四周，整個社會都受法律約束。」他特別鼓勵參加者主動參與及積極提問，因爲「透過學習法律，你們所獲得的將是多項實用技能。你們將學會如何詮釋法律規則並加以運用。這些技能之所以寶貴，正是因爲我們整個社會是建立於法律框架之上。因此，在日常生活的各方面你都會接觸到法律的應用。一旦掌握這些原則，它們將在你生活的各個層面發揮作用。即使將來不從事法律行業，這些技能對你選擇的任何職業都非常有用。」
