[CCCL & CPAL] The Rise and Fall of Judicial Transparency in China
The Centre for Chinese and Comparative Law (CCCL) and the Centre for Public Affairs and Law (CPAL) co-hosted a public guest talk, “The Rise and Fall of Judicial Transparency in China”, on 8 September at the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong.
The talk was delivered by Professor Rachel E. STERN (Professor of Law and Political Science, School of Law, University of California, Berkeley) and moderated by Professor Virginia HARPER HO (Professor, School of Law, City University of Hong Kong). Drawing on the case of China Judgements Online (CJO), Professor Stern traced the shifts of the past decade that have reshaped public access to court judgments, from a broad-scale public disclosure to a more selective, curated release of judicial materials, situating the shifts within conversations surrounding transparency, privacy, and administrative governance.
The talk was followed by a lively Q&A with participants.
This joint seminar forms part of CCCL and CPAL’s ongoing public event series, designed to bring together academics, students and interested members of the public to examine cutting edge issues in Chinese and comparative law.

9 月 8 日，中國法與比較法研究中心（CCCL）與公共事務及法律研究中心（CPAL）於香港城市大學（城大）法律學院聯合舉辦了一場公開嘉賓講座，題為“中國司法透明度的發展歷程“（The Rise and Fall of Judicial Transparency in China）。
講座由加州大學柏克萊分校法學院Rachel E. STERN 教授主講、城大法律學院郝唯真教授擔任是次活動主持。Stern 教授以中國裁判文書網（CJO）為例，梳理過去十年間改變公眾查閱法院判決渠道的重大制度轉變，講解司法文書公開模式由大規模對外公開，過渡至更具選擇性、經篩選整理後發布的發展，並分析道此轉變與全球各地圍繞透明度、私隱保障及行政治理持續演進的討論息息相關。
講座結束後，與會者進行了熱烈的問答互動。
是次聯合研討會屬 CCCL與CPAL 常設公開活動系列之一，旨在匯聚學者、學生與感興趣的公衆人士，研討中國法與比較法的前沿議題。
