CPLR Roundtable: The Future of Common Law in the HKSAR
Recently, The Public Law and Human Rights Forum (CPLR) held a Roundtable titled “The Future of Common Law in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region”. This event brought together a stellar group of legal professionals and scholars to discuss critical issues of Hong Kong’s common law system. The main issues discussed at this Roundtable include the role of the common law system in Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability, controversies surrounding overseas non-permanent Judges in the Court of Final Appeal, and how the common law system can develop as an “institutional lever” to promote national development....

Professional and practical experiences in Maritime Law
Students attending the Principles of Maritime Law elective visited the Hong Kong International Terminals, where the international shipping of containerised cargo was explained to them, and the role of container shipping in the local economy was highlighted. Students also visited the Hongkong Salvage & Towage Services Limited (HKSTS), where they went onboard the Sung Kong, one of the most advanced tug available in Hong Kong and learned about towage and salvage operations. The contractual and legal arrangements used in the provision of these services were also discussed in a follow-up session....
