Student Enrolment (for Local Students)
Applicants being informed of acceptance must pay the required fees and register in person with the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies within the prescribed period. Those who failed to do so will be deemed to have declined the offer. Prior to student enrolment, students on acceptance of offer should note the following:
Starting Date of Candidature
The starting date of candidature is normally the first day of September or January to fit with the beginning of a semester.
Pre-enrolment
All new students are required to perform an online pre-enrolment process before coming to the University for enrolment. This is an online process through which a new student is able to confirm his/her personal contact information to the University and to activate his/her electronic ID (EID).
Activate the EID
The electronic ID (EID) has been assigned to each new student during the application process. If you do not get it at the admission application stage, you can activate it by performing the pre-enrolment process upon receipt of the enrolment notification email. The EID enables you to login the CityUHK Student e-Portal and access a wealth of information relating to the studies. You must complete this pre-enrolment process before coming to the University for New Student Enrolment.
Student ID
Upon completion of the pre-enrolment process, you have to upload your photo which will be used for student ID card production during enrolment. Please read the photo requirements in detail and take the following actions:
Log into AIMS, click on the tab "Services for New Students" and select "Photo Upload for Student ID Card".
All students will be issued a student identity card after enrolment. The card bears the student name and student number with a photo which is for identification purpose at the University. Students must take good care of the student identity card during the studies at the University.
In-person Enrolment
New students are required to come to the University campus to register in person. At the time of enrolment, you are required to produce for verification the original copy of your identity document and the supporting documents for qualifications claimed in the application form. Actions Required After Enrolment
- Check and update your address and telephone number in AIMS. It is the information that inputted by you during the online pre-enrolment process.
Login to the CityUHK Portal:- Select AIMS on the left-hand side of the screen
- Select the tab Personal Information
- Select Personal Data for Communication
- Check and update your address and telephone number
- Visit the SGS website for Research Degree Programmes to access important information relating to your studies at the University, such as:
- Regulations and Guidelines
- Coursework Requirements
- Thesis Assessment and Examination
- Guidebook for Research Degree Studies
- Academic Honesty
Academic honesty is central to the conduct of all academic work. To enhance students’ understanding of academic honesty, all new students are required to complete the online tutorial and quiz, and submit the declaration on or before the following deadlines in order to access their grade results online.- by 30 November for Semester A and summer admissions; or
- by 30 April for Semester B admissions.
- Anti-Deception and Prevention of Sexual Harassment
CityUHK requires all new students to complete the Anti-Deception Quiz and Sexual Harassment Online Training to foster a safe campus environment. Details will be sent after enrolment and must be completed by the following deadlines. Incompletion will result in suspension of digital services.
- by 30 November for Semester A and summer admissions; or
- by 30 April for Semester B admissions.
- ORCID Creation and Integration Exercise
Research output is one of the researchers’ achievements. To enable students and the University to harvest and keep track of their publications accurately, the University has made it mandatory that all research students create or report their ORCID iD (which is a unique identifier when submitting publications) through CityUHK Scholars by participating in the ORCID Creation and Integration Exercise.
The Exercise involves two parts:
Part 1: Creating / Reporting ORCID iD (via CityUHK Scholars)
Part 2: Integrating ORCID iD with Scopus Author ID (if any)
Please complete part 1 within one month after commencement of your study at CityUHK and part 2 once you have obtained a Scopus Author ID.
Updating Your Public Profile in CityUHK Scholars
A public researcher profile will be created for each individual research student in CityUHK Scholars after the commencement of your study. To access your profile and see how it looks like now, please go to CityUHK Scholars to search for it with your name. You are encouraged to update and enhance your profile with reference to the user guide.

- Meeting Management and Research Log (MMRL) System for Research Degree Students
In order to cultivate a strong and effective research student-supervisor partnership, a Meeting Management and Research Log (MMRL) function is provided in AIMS. The MMRL is designed to enhance the communication between research degree students and their respective supervisors by providing a platform for managing meetings and research logs that will enable students to receive valuable feedback from supervisors.
There are two simple steps you need to do:
- Schedule and set up a meeting with your supervisor via MMRL in AIMS (at least one meeting per quarter)
- After a meeting with your supervisor, submit a meeting log in AIMS for your supervisor’s approval and feedback
How to Access MMRL in AIMS
- Login to AIMS with your EID and password
- Select the Student Record menu
- Select My Study Details (for Research Degree Programmes)
- Select Meeting and Research Log
Adverse Weather Arrangements
The adverse weather arrangements apply when:
- a typhoon signal No.8 or above is issued; or
- the Hong Kong Observatory announces that a typhoon signal No. 8 or above will be issued within 2 hours; or
- a black rainstorm warning signal is issued; or
- an "extreme condition" announcement is issued by the Government after super typhoons.
When the adverse weather signal / announcement is issued:
- At or after 7:00 am, the enrolment and qualification checking session with commencement time before 2:00 pm will be cancelled.
- At or after 12:00 noon, the enrolment and qualification checking session with commencement time after 2:00 pm will be cancelled.
In the event the adverse weather signal / announcement is issued, the University will be closed. The cancelled enrolment session(s) will be rescheduled. Students with a scheduled appointment will be notified of the details for the rescheduled arrangement via email.

The new academic year will begin on 1 Sept 2025.
