Embarking on the path to becoming a veterinarian is a remarkable undertaking, one that tests the determination, resilience, and unwavering commitment of countless aspiring students. Darrian’s journey as a veterinary student has been no exception, marked by a series of challenges that ultimately shaped him into the dedicated student and future veterinarian he is today.

At the heart of this demanding journey lies the formidable academic curriculum. The pursuit of veterinary education requires a profound grasp of intricate scientific concepts, ranging from the intricacies of anatomy and physiology to the complexities of pharmacology and diagnostics. Conquering this challenge demanded unswerving dedication and the support of a network comprised of devoted professors, insightful mentors, and like-minded peers. Within the classrooms of CityUHK’s Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme, Darrian found a nurturing environment that fostered meaningful interactions with professors. Their timely assistance and guidance have been instrumental in helping him navigate the demanding academic terrain, enabling his continuous growth as a veterinary student.

Diving headfirst into not one but two research projects added depth to Darrian’s educational journey. Exploring the potential benefits of CBD in dogs and unravelling the mysteries of Babesia infection in cats provided him with invaluable insights into the scientific foundation of the veterinary medicine field. A particularly memorable moment was being honoured with the MSD/WVA scholarship, which recognised his steadfast dedication and underscored the potential impact he could make.

Beyond the confines of the classroom, Darrian sought enrichment through hands-on experience. A transformative placement at Cornell University and clinical rotations at CityUHK’s Veterinary Medical Centre were accelerators, propelling his knowledge and honing his skills. Exposure to various cases, cutting-edge techniques, and seasoned mentors enhanced his comprehension of veterinary medicine. This journey was about gaining technical proficiency and adopting a holistic approach to veterinary care. It empowered him to approach diagnosis and treatment with a well-informed and innovative mindset, setting him on a trajectory to become a well-rounded and capable veterinarian.

Looking back on the past five years, Darrian is profoundly grateful for the support of the veterinary school and the camaraderie of his classmates, who have become lifelong friends and companions. His journey has been a testament to the power of passion, dedication, and perseverance in realising one’s dreams and positively impacting the world of animal care.
