The team emerged from the Taiwan trip more united than ever.

The team won the championship with a score of 79 to 63.

The Men’s Basketball Team at CityUHK clinched the championship title at the Intercollegiate Basketball Competition, organised by the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China in 2024. Their journey to success was filled with challenges, but their boundless devotion and teamwork led to their victory.

The CityUHK’s Men’s Basketball Team boasted a reputation as one of the top contenders among the intercollegiate teams. The team has 19 members, two coaches, a team manager and two honorary team managers. Fourteen members, including 11 local and three non-local students, participated in this year’s Intercollegiate Competition.

Determined to win this year’s championship, they embarked on a five-day transformative trip to Taiwan earlier, which proved to be pivotal. They engaged in friendly matches with local university teams, which greatly sharpened their defensive skills. The trip also provided an opportunity for the team to address lingering grudges that had arisen from miscommunication among certain members. The team came together and cleared the air, successfully resolving these issues. As a result, they emerged from the experience stronger and more united than ever.

The emphasis on communication by non-local students had a profound impact on the team's performance on the court. Players began alerting their teammates about potential threats in advance, allowing for swift adjustments in strategy and helping when needed. This new-found level of communication greatly improved their overall game.

Winning the final competition was not easy, but good preparation was the key. The team meticulously studied the strategies, strengths and weaknesses of their competitor. Armed with a well-crafted counterstrategy, coupled with their strengthened bonds after the Taiwan trip and constant feedback and exchange among teammates during the game, they reclaimed the championship title.

With the impending graduation of several seasoned players, the weighty responsibility of defending the title will fall on the shoulders of the next generation. Sensing the magnitude of the task at hand, these emerging stars rose to the occasion, embracing the challenge and brainstorming strategies and approaches to maintain their winning streak in the coming year.
