After completing the common School requirements, students will study a group of major core courses that distinguish BACM from the other two SCM majors. The core courses are Creative Media Studio II (cinematography and video post-production), Physical Computing and Tangible Media, Critical Theory and Socially Engaged Practices and Narrative Strategies and Aesthetics of Time-based Media for a variety of media contexts such as moving image, animation, experimental videography, documentary works, games, hypertextual environments and non-linear screen storytelling.

Beyond the School and major core requirements, students are free to take any elective courses from various areas such as animation, game, cinema and new media. These electives are meant to assist students in designing their own study paths based on their personal and professional objectives.

All students undertake a research-based Graduation Thesis/Project, which can be a creative art or critical writing project. Optional internships and overseas exchange programmes are also in place to provide students with networking experience before they graduate. Throughout their studies, students will have broad exposure to world-class artists and creative media professionals who visit SCM as guests or artists-in-residence on a regular basis.

Students can also take free electives or minor(s) according to their personal or career interests to fulfil the credit requirement for graduation. A strong Student Advising Scheme is in place to provide students with essential guidance and mentoring as part of their study plan.

Scholarship

CityUHK is committed to nurturing the talents of students and creating applicable knowledge in order to support social and economic development. To attract bright local talent, CityUHK Scholarships for Hong Kong Talents have been set up for Hong Kong students with excellent HKDSE or GCE A-Level / IB results applying to government-funded bachelor's degree programmes. The scholarship awards will cover up to six years of study, depending on the normal duration of the registered undergraduate programme. Please click here for details.

Career Prospect

Graduates are qualified for a broad range of positions in media, art, design and film industries. We expect our graduates to obtain jobs in areas such as animation, film, television, video production, advertising, media art, internet and multimedia design, art-writing, art/media education, art/cultural management and exhibition design. The BACM curriculum also addresses the professional environment in which competent and socially engaged media art professionals are needed outside the media industry. BACM graduates should be prepared for careers in artistic and cultural fields through good networking and the ability to contribute sound knowledge of multimedia and interdisciplinary creative thinking. The design of the curriculum also allows students to develop secondary areas of interest to broaden their employability and graduate-level higher education opportunities.

Joint Bachelor's Degree Programme

Curriculum Structure

The BVM is a six-year programme jointly developed with our partner, the College of Veterinary Medicine of Cornell University. It is designed to train professionally competent veterinarians in accordance with the international accreditation standards of the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC) and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Upon graduation, students will have fulfilled the Day One Competences of the AVBC, RCVS and OIE and will be confident and competent to practice.

The first two years of the programme focus on biomedical and pre-clinical disciplines that will equip students with the knowledge and understanding required to embark on the para-clinical and clinical curriculum taught in Years Three to Six of the BVM.

During Years One and Two, students will become confident in understanding and assessing the normal behaviour of a range of different species and in handling them for health assessments and clinical examinations. Years Three and Four incorporate problem-based learning to deliver key para-clinical courses, including the Animal Body, Function and Dysfunction and Host, Agent and Defence. In Years Five and Six, students learn about diseases and preventive health care of a wide range of animal species, apply evidence-based medicine skills to conduct research and apply and practise their clinical skills in a variety of different settings, e.g., clinical practices as well as abattoirs, laboratories, or government veterinary services.

The six-year curriculum emphasises both clinical practice and the science that underlies it, ensuring that BVM students develop into well-rounded veterinarians omnicompetent to provide veterinary care to multiple animal species, including companion animals (cats, dogs, horses), exotics and wildlife, marine and freshwater species and livestock.

The four BVM themes, comprising animal welfare, aquatic animal health, emerging infectious diseases, and food safety, are introduced from Day 1 of the BVM programme.

The completion of some curriculum components may require students to spend time at facilities outside of Hong Kong, including Chinese Mainland.

For more information about the BVM (including more details about courses and workload), click here or visit the BVM website.

Flagship Scholarship

As the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) undergraduate degree programme is one of the Flagship Programmes offered by CityUHK, local students admitted to the Flagship Programmes with outstanding academic performance shall be automatically considered for the Flagship Scholarships.

The Flagship Scholarship goes towards covering tuition fees and hall fees, guarantees a berth in the Halls of Residence and includes a one-off special sponsorship of up to HK$500,000, for one exchange placement at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, which is ranked 3rd in QS World University Rankings for Veterinary Science 2024, in addition to the compulsory Cornell Extra-mural Studies (EMS) programme already embedded in the BVM programme.

The following placements at Cornell are offered depending on availability:
