Entrance Requirements for Direct/Non-JUPAS Applicants

To be considered for admission, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements. Preference may be given to students with better English proficiency and have studied a course in Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics or Statistics at a high school or post-secondary institution.

For senior-year (Advanced Standing II) admission, applicants are normally expected to have completed an Associate Degree/Higher Diploma with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of ≥3.0 or an equivalent overall mark, or a credit award. Preference may be given to applicants who have attained Level 4 or above in HKDSE English Language or IELTS overall band score of 6.5 or above.

Student Mentorship Scheme

Under this scheme, each freshmen will be paired with one senior mentor throughout the Year 1 undergraduate study. This scheme prepares our students, both mentors and mentees, to be responsible citizens at City University and in Hong Kong, and to become future business leaders. It aims to cultivate a strong sense of belonging to the Department of Accountancy and City University by facilitating the establishment of a network for senior students to interact with junior students, to learn from each other and to share experiences.

Jointly offered by the Department of Computer Science and the College of Business, the programme aims to educate a new generation of professionals with a unique combination of expertise from the important areas of computer science, computational finance, and financial technology. Finance is one of the pillars supporting the economy of Hong Kong, and the use of computational technologies has become pervasive in different business sectors. Curriculum Structure for Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Bachelor of Science in Computational Finance and Financial Technology

The College of Business is one of the premier business schools in Asia, offering a full suite of programmes from BBA, BSc, MBA, MSc, EMBA, DBA to PhD level, as well as specialist executive education courses. The School of Law and the Department of Accountancy are internationally renowned for the strengths of their respective disciplines. Their work is linked with the financial and corporate sectors, which often have legal disputes that can only be solved by those with a detailed knowledge of accounting. Students in the double degree programme will acquire wide-ranging legal knowledge and skills that will enable them to progress to professional legal training, and will also acquire foundational knowledge that can assist them to qualify as accountants. The graduates of the double degree programme, the Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy, benefit from a rigorous legal education combined with solid academic training in accounting within a global business mindset.  It is thus expected that they will be highly sought after for positions in the commercial and financial sectors.

Students will enrol in a number of courses offered by AC (accounting courses) and SLW (law courses) in all semesters in the five-year programme, to complete a minimum requirement of 150 credit units (including 54 credit units for accounting and business courses and 57 credit units for law courses). In line with the University’s tuition fees policy, any extra credit units exceeding 144 completed in the first four years and any credit units taken in the fifth year of study and beyond will be charged on a self-financing basis.

Suggested Study Plan for Year 1 study

The double degree will prepare students for a career in the legal and financial sectors, and they will also have the option to become a legal professional. Students will receive a well-rounded education from our staff, which includes distinguished teachers and scholars from Hong Kong, Mainland China, the UK, Australia, India, and Malaysia. In addition, students will have the opportunity to be taught by visiting faculty from law schools all around the world.

Students who complete the Law Major and two additional specific law electives (6 credits) will satisfy the requirements stipulated by the Standing Committee on Legal Education and Training to apply for admission to the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL).

In accordance with the professional accreditation guidelines, after commencement of the double degree programme requests for accreditation will be submitted to professional bodies, e.g., The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), to obtain the same professional accreditation as the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy programme.

BBA GOM graduates are prepared for careers as management trainees, operations managers, operations analysts, project managers, etc. They typically begin in areas such as consulting, financial operations, health care operations, procurement and sourcing, retail management and supply chain management.

Hi! My name is Gloria. In July 2022, I joined The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) as an intern in Commercial Banking, specifically in Business Banking - Strategy and Innovation. 

Job Nature

My daily tasks include data analysis to understand client behavior in our platform, research, and engaging with clients. One of the biggest projects I was assigned to support was the launch of the new platform called Business Go which allows me to communicate with different teams and divisions including marketing, IT, content, and many more. BDAN has prepared me with the essential skills including excel, SQL, and presentations which I could apply directly to the projects. 

Achievement and Learnings

During the internship, I was able to connect with like-minded people, have a better understanding of the business, and applied what I have learnt in university. Not to mention, my team has taught me on how to present data in a more efficient way to align with business expectations. This internship allowed me to find my passion in the financial industry and decide to pursue a career in banking.

Hi, everyone! I’m Philomena, a current student majoring in Business Decision Analytics. In the summer of 2024, I had the opportunity to intern at Sigtica Limited, a start-up firm where I worked as a data analyst.

Job Nature

Sigtica Limited is a dynamic and fast-growing startup, and I was thrilled to secure a role as a data analyst. My solid background in programming and data analysis tools helped me stand out during the application process. Through this internship, I realized how valuable technical skills in machine learning and natural language processing are in today’s job market. My prior experience with programming languages and statistical analysis gave me the competitive edge needed to land this exciting opportunity.

Learning and Achievement

This internship marked a shift from my previous experiences, as it was more focused on computer science and model development. Although I initially encountered challenges adapting to the technical demands of the role, my perseverance and problem-solving skills enabled me to overcome these obstacles. I successfully built and fine-tuned a prediction model for Named Entity Recognition (NER), automating the extraction of key information from IPO documents. By leveraging the Transformer library, I developed a model that achieved an impressive F1 score of 95%, streamlining the process of analyzing large financial documents.

Throughout the internship, I gained invaluable experience working with different NLP platforms, including spaCy, Transformer, and ONNX. I was able to convert models between these platforms seamlessly, which enhanced my technical expertise. The data-related courses offered by DAO Department were particularly rewarding as they gave me a solid understanding of big data operations and statistics which is very important in the Internet industry.

Applicants to this programme (admission code: 1017) will be considered for admission to first-year studies at the Department of Information Systems. Students will enter a major (current major options: Global Business Systems Management; BBA Information Management) after one year of study.
