How to access my M365 account using Microsoft Outlook with IMAP Account Type?

  1. Start Microsoft Outlook.
  2. If you want to add your account in a new Outlook profile, click New..., enter a new profile name and click OK. Then go to step 10.

  3. Otherwise, choose an existing Outlook profile and click OK.

  4. Login existing Email account if any.
  5. Click File, select Info.
  6. Click Account Settings, select Account Settings....

  7. In the E-mail tab, Click New.

  8. Select E-mail Account radio option.
  9. Click Next.

  10. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types.
  11. Click Next.

  12. Select Internet E-mail.
  13. Click Next.

  14. Enter "Internet E-mail Settings" as below:

  15. Your Name: The name you wish displayed when recipients get your e-mails.
  16. E-mail Address: Your M365 email address. (e.g. Tom.Chan@cityu.edu.hk)
  17. Account Type: IMAP
  18. Incoming mail server: outlook.office365.com
  19. Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.office365.com
  20. Use Name: your M365 account in the format of "@um.cityu.edu.hk". (e.g. cctom@um.cityu.edu.hk)
  21. Password: The password of your M365 account (if you want Outlook to remember password).
  22. Deselect Test Account Settings by clearing the checkbox of the option (not available in Outlook 2013).
  23. Click More Settings...

  25. Select Advanced tab.
  26. Select SSL in the drop-down box. Change Incoming server (IMAP) number 993.
  27. Select TLS in the drop-down box. Change Outgoing server (SMTP) number 587.

  28. Select the Outgoing Server tab.
  29. Select My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and User same settings as my incoming mail server.
  30. Click OK and Next.

  31. Click Finish and Close.
