Achievements and Awards

City University of Hong Kong achieved outstanding results at the National Finals of the 21st China Graduate Electronics Design Contest (GEDC), securing three National First Prizes for its cutting-edge engineering innovations. This year’s competition marked the introduction of the inaugural Hong Kong and Macau Division, hosted by CityUHK, which enabled teams from Hong Kong and Macau, as well as cross-regional collaborations, to compete on the national stage, further strengthening innovation exchange and industry-academia-research collaboration between Hong Kong, Macau and the Chinese Mainland.

Four outstanding undergraduates from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) were awarded the Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2026, in recognition of their innovative ideas and dedication to science and technology. Each awardee will receive HK$150,000 to undertake a series of elite-nurturing initiatives, including overseas and Chinese Mainland attachments, internships and mentorship programmes. They will also have the opportunity to engage in community outreach activities to translate their insights into practice and give back to society.

Students from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) recently achieved outstanding results at the artificial intelligence (AI) hackathon, Hack The East 2026. Their innovative project, StudyRot, stood out among numerous competing teams and earned the OAX Foundation Award, demonstrating CityUHK students’ creativity and technical prowess in applying AI to real-life scenarios.

Two CityUHK PhD students — Hui Tsz Hin Kenny (PhD in Physics) and Nidhi Mahejabeen Hossain (PhD in Veterinary Clinical Sciences) — were selected as two of the 10 winners of the “For Our Future Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2025/26”, receiving HK$80,000 each. Organised by the Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Community Foundation, the scholarship recognises outstanding PhD students in STEM disciplines and motivates them to inject fresh vitality into Hong Kong’s I&T development. May their success inspire more CityUHKers to dive into the world of I&T and explore the infinite possibilities of the future!

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) warmly congratulates student-athlete Baldwin Chan Ho-wah and distinguished alumna Grace Lau Mo-sheung for their outstanding achievements at the Cathay 2025 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards. The two athletes received top honours in their respective categories, showcasing CityUHK’s success in nurturing sporting talent.

Mr Li Guangda, a doctoral student at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), has been selected as one of the Top 10 Outstanding International Students in Hong Kong 2025. The award recognises his outstanding achievements in academic research and professional development, as well as his contributions to social service, cultural heritage, community building and the promotion of youth exchange between the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong.

The award ceremony of the Outstanding Tertiary Students Award of Hong Kong 2025 was held on 13 September 2025. Congratulations to CityUHK graduates LO Cheuk Yin (Sabrina) and SUEN Ka Wing (Carrie) for being selected as winners.

This award recognised tertiary students who have demonstrated academic excellence and made meaningful contributions to society. Through the selection process, students developed their talents and broadened their horizons.

In a stunning victory, Baldwin Chan Ho-wah from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has won the men’s doubles table tennis for Hong Kong, China at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany. This historic sporting achievement marks the first-ever table tennis Gold medal for Hong Kong, China at the FISU World University Games.

Tasha Lam Ka Yin, a Year 3 student from CityUHK College of Science’s Flagship Programme Global Research Enrichment and Technopreneurship (GREAT), is being selected as one of the 25 undergraduate awardees of the Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2025. The Scholarship is jointly launched by the HKSAR government’s Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), HSBC and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.
