Be Curious! Be Proactive!
We are at the threshold of a new era shaped by rapid advancements in digital computation and artificial intelligence. While some view these changes with uncertainty, I invite you to see them as opportunities – to imagine boldly, innovate fearlessly, and redefine what is possible. The future will belong not to those who wait passively, but to those who are curious enough to question, explore, and create.
Curiosity is the foundation of growth. It drives us to challenge assumptions, embrace new ideas, and continue learning beyond what is familiar. As a professor of psychology, I realised that people often perceive the world through the lens of their past experiences and norms of the society, which can lead to both collective and individual stereotypes and prejudices that may not reflect reality. Let us be proactive in setting those labels aside. Boundaries can be crossed by stepping forward without judgment and with an open mind.
Your university journey is a time to act with intention: try new experiences, engage across cultures, and seize opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Participate in competitions, apply for internships or scholarships, perform on stage, or immerse yourself in an exchange programme.
Each choice you make adds to your story. Learning is lifelong, and your time at CityUHK will be a meaningful chapter, shaped by your curiosity and willingness to take initiatives.
