Description

The Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission (SALSA) Scheme offers university education opportunities to elite athletes of Hong Kong in quest of their dual career development in sports and academics. To foster connections among student-athletes, academic departments and the CityUHK community, the Physical Education Section of the Student Development Services hosted the "SALSA Go Beyond" gathering on 4 December 2024.

The event welcomed over 30 attendees, including Ms. Regina CHAN, Athlete Affairs Manager for Personal Development of Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), faculty members and staff of CityUHK academic departments, as well as student-athletes and staff under the SALSA scheme.

At her welcoming address, Professor Dannii YEUNG, Associate Provost (Student Life) of CityUHK, highlighted the university's commitment to the physical and mental well-being of students, as well as its dedication to promoting sports development.

LEE Chun Hei, a badminton athlete under SALSA scheme, shared that, “The luncheon gathering allowed us to acquire the latest information on the SALSA Scheme. I had pleasant conversations with faculty members. With a stronger connection between us, I trust that student-athletes will gain bespoke academic support.”

HO Chung Lun, a swimming athlete under SALSA scheme, said, “With regular gatherings, I have the opportunity to connect with different athletes. Besides, the Student Development Services team offer me ample guidance on career planning after retirement or upon graduation.”

CityUHK will continue to collaborate closely with the Hong Kong Sports Institute to provide comprehensive support for student-athletes in their dual-track development.
