Prof. Christopher To Shared Expertise at the Sports Dispute Resolution Workshop
On 4 July, the “Resolving Disputes Efficiently for Joint Success: Sports Dispute Resolution Workshop” concluded successfully. The event was co-organised by the Department of Justice, AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre (AALCO-HKRAC), eBRAM International Online Dispute Resolution Centre, and Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.
Professor Christopher TO, Barrister-at-Law and Programme Director of Master of Laws in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution, was invited to team up with Ms CHAN Ho Ling, MH, gold medallist in the Women’s Squash Team event at the 18th Asian Games, and Ms CHAN Hau Yan, Coach of the Hong Kong Karate Federation, to demonstrate how sports disputes can be resolved through mediation in a short drama roleplay.

As a Chartered Arbitrator, Accredited Mediator, and Mediator of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Prof. To stepped into the role of the mediator, bringing real-world authenticity as he demonstrated how to navigate complex conflicts in this exercise. Through this interactive approach, they highlighted the core aspects of the mediation process and touched on aspects of the arbitration process, giving participants a firsthand understanding of the real-world operations of the Pilot Scheme on Sports Dispute Resolution.

The Pilot Scheme on Sports Dispute Resolution (Pilot Scheme), launched by the Department of Justice and supported by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, is a key initiative under the Policy Address. The Pilot Scheme aims to provide the sports sector with a fair, efficient and convenient mechanism for resolving sports disputes through mediation and arbitration, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of Hong Kong’s sports industry and promoting Hong Kong as an international centre for sports dispute resolution.

「高效解紛齊報捷:體育爭議解決工作坊」於7月4日圓滿舉行。是次活動由律政司、亞非法協香港區域仲裁中心、一邦國際網上仲調中心和中國香港體育協會暨奧林匹克委員會共同主辦。
身兼大律師及法學碩士(仲裁及爭議解決學)課程主任的陶榮教授應邀出席活動,並聯同第十八屆亞運會女子壁球團體賽金牌得主陳浩鈴女士,MH,以及中國香港空手道總會教練陳巧恩女士,通過短劇角色扮演,示範如何以調解方式解決體育爭議。

作爲香港仲裁員及調解員、並兼任國際體育仲裁法庭調解員,陶教授在此模擬演習中擔當調解員的角色,親身示範如何應對複雜紛爭,為整個過程注入真實感。 透過這種互動方式,他們著重闡述調解過程的核心,並簡略談及仲裁程序,讓參加者親身體會體育爭議解決先導計劃的實際運作。
