Visiting Distinguished Professor
Regents Professor, University of Minnesota
Member of U.S. National Academy of Engineering

Prof. Pui received his B.S.M.E., M.S. and Ph.D. all at the University of Minnesota.  He received his Associate Professor (1984) and Professor (1992) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. He was a Visiting Associate at the California Institute of Technology; a Visiting Professor at the Gerhard-Mercator-University Duisburg, Germany; a Distinguished Visiting Professor of the German Research Foundation; a Chair Professor at the Xi’an Jiaotong University and at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, China; a Distinguished Visiting Professor at The University of Hong Kong and at the City University of Hong Kong.

David Y. H. Pui is a Regents Professor and LM Fingerson/TSI Inc. Chair in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota.  He is a Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and the Director of the Center for Filtration Research consisting of 20 international filtration manufacturers.  Prof. Pui has a broad range of research experience in aerosol/nanoparticle engineering and filtration technology and has over 360 journal papers and 43 patents.  These have enabled the development of eight commercial instruments for measuring atmospheric pollutions worldwide.  Several ISO standards and NIST primary particle standards are based on his research.  Four large-scale air cleaning towers he developed were deployed in China and India for reducing urban smog and CO2 for environmental sustainability.  He received the Max Planck Research Award (1993), the CAS Einstein Professor Award (2013), and the Fuchs Memorial Award (2010) - the highest disciplinary award conferred jointly by the American, German and Japanese Aerosol Associations.  He served as President of the American Association for Aerosol Research (2000-2001), and President of the International Aerosol Research Assembly (2006-2010) consisting of 16 national associations from around the world.
