On 22 August 2025, the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) hosted the second part of a joint symposium series with the Institute of Animal Health at the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The event, held on the CityUHK campus, built upon the success of the first symposium held in Nansha on 24 June 2025, further strengthening the collaborative partnership between the two institutions.
The symposium commenced with welcoming remarks from Prof. Vanessa BARRS, Dean of JCC, followed by speeches from Prof. Patrick BUTAYE, Associate Dean (Research), and Mr. WANG Qingfeng, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Nansha District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau.
The programme then proceeded to its scientific core, featuring a series of research presentations covering a range of critical topics, including the epidemiology and prevention of viral infections in poultry, the development of vaccines for animal diseases, and the characterization of animal production systems. Researchers from the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences and faculty from JCC shared their insights on pathogenic mechanisms, regulatory mechanisms in microbial infections, and innovative approaches to veterinary health challenges. The discussions underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing veterinary medicine and animal health.
In her concluding remarks, Dean Vanessa BARRS thanked colleagues in the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences for their visit and insightful presentations, highlighting the value of the exchange and the strong potential for future joint initiatives.
The joint symposia marked a significant step forward in strengthening the relationship between JCC and our collaborators in Guangdong Academy and Nansha, paving the way for innovative research and partnerships in the field of veterinary medicine.
