Appointments of Associate Dean and Acting Head

We are very pleased to announce the concurrent appointment of Professor Sheng Chen as Associate Dean (Research) of the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC). Prof. Chen joined the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health (PH) as Professor (Veterinary Bacteriology) in August 2019.
Before joining CityU, he worked at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 2009 to 2019 where he secured over HKD 35 million of research funding in Hong Kong and over RMB 9 million from mainland China.
Prof. Chen has published over 130 publications with many in top journals and has been recognised as one of the leading researchers in the area of bacterial antimicrobial resistance and virulence.
During his previous role as Acting Head (PH), Prof. Chen provided effective leadership in delivering departmental plans and operations, establishing infrastructure and developing strategic research directions for the unit.

We want to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing Associate Dean (Research), Professor Dirk Pfeiffer (Chow Tak Fung Chair Professor of One Health). Prof. Pfeiffer has made tremendous contributions to the college in the past three years by leading the overall research efforts of the college and establishing it as an internationally recognised centre of excellence in One Health. Prof. Pfeiffer will continue to serve as the Director of the Centre for Applied One Health Research and Policy Advice (OHRP).

As Prof. Chen relinquished his role as Acting Head (PH), Professor Sophie St-Hilaire was appointed as the Acting Head (PH). Before joining CityU, Prof. St-Hilaire was a Professor and Canada Research Chair at the Atlantic Veterinary College, Canada, and she is one of the leading researchers in aquatic animal health and epidemiology. She has previously served as the Associate Head (PH) and Interim BVM Programme Leader.
