Research Assistant in the Department of English (Appointment for 12 months) [Ref. B/R/1224/09]

 

The Department of English at City University of Hong Kong has an outstanding research and publications record.  As a leading centre for English studies in Asia, the Department produces impactful research and engages in knowledge transfer initiatives.  To support these research related activities, the Department currently invites applications for a Research Assistant to serve as a coordinator of research projects and related events.

Duties

Key areas of responsibility include:

  1. Research activity organisation and management
    • The candidate will help to manage and develop outreach and knowledge transfer activities, helping the Department's researchers insure that their findings reach key stakeholders.  These activities include various professional, cultural, and educational events such as: hands-on practical training, professional workshops, industry conferences, forums, roundtables, school visits, public seminars, exhibitions, performances, company talks, and various forms of media coverage.
  2. Evaluation of activities
    • This will involve developing and carrying out measures to assess the success of events and activities in order to assist planning of future initiatives.  This may include, for example, improving media coverage of the research, tracking subsequent engagement or debate related to the research underpinning the impact activity, establishing facts and figures that demonstrate reach and significance of impact of the research, and monitoring the impact of our different events.
  3. Maintaining stakeholder relationships
    • The successful candidate will serve as a contact point for developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships. 
 

Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification/experience in a relevant area, preferably a Master’s degree, with no more than a total of 6 years of service at the University;
  2. Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English;
  3. Strong organisational and time management skills; and
  4. Experience of project management.

 

In addition, experience of project management and/or event organisation, budget management, communicating about research with specialists and non-specialists, website design, social media and web traffic analytics are desirable.

 

Salary and Conditions of Service

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
