Teaching Specialist (Parent Education) in the Office of the Vice-President (Development and External Relations) [Ref. D/282/09]

 

City University of Hong Kong is one of the co-creators of CoolThink@JC, an inter-institutional project which aims to foster the sustainable development of computational thinking education in Hong Kong.

The University is seeking high caliber talent to join the project team.  Reporting to the Vice-President (Development and External Relations), the team will support the coordination and implementation of effective parent education workshops and quality delivery of co-teaching support to primary schools.

Duties

  1. Perform a key role in promoting computational thinking education to parents;
  2. Conduct parent education workshops, implement programme plans and achieve project objectives in planned timeframes;
  3. Work closely with team members to ensure smooth implementation and quality of the parent education workshops, as well as delivery of target outcomes;
  4. Assist in module development, and related design and production work;
  5. Supervise a team of part-time student helpers who serve as teaching assistants for supporting workshop delivery, and carry out related training and performance evaluation; and
  6. Assist in organisation of project-related publicity and outreach activities.


Working on Saturdays/Sundays/public holidays, and travelling between different workplaces will be required.

Requirements

A PhD/Master’s degree/Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years’ relevant working experience preferably in education and related fields.  Excellent presentation skills; good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (with high proficiency in Cantonese); and the ability to work independently and in a team are required.  Candidates are expected to be self-motivated, patient, and mature with good communication, organisational and problem solving skills.  Experience in IT education and teaching would be an advantage.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
