Technical Officer in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences [Ref. C/728/09]

Duties

  1. Provide technical support to the clinical skill laboratories and research laboratories in the department;
  2. Prepare practical classes and other teaching activities in the clinical skill laboratories and other teaching laboratories; and rotations on and off campus to support other teaching activities;
  3. Assist with equipment, chemicals and consumable purchases for teaching and research activities, including sourcing and stock taking;
  4. Carry out day-to-day operations in laboratories including performing cleaning and sterilization of laboratories and laboratory equipment, checking, maintaining and arranging servicing of equipment; prepare and support laboratory teaching activities; and arrange laundry work for practical classes;
  5. Maintain high standards of occupational health and safety in the teaching and research laboratories; report any abnormalities / incidents to supervisor without delay; and
  6. Perform other duties as required.

Shift duty and working on Sundays and public holidays may be required.

Requirements

A Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science / Biological or Biomedical Sciences/Molecular Biology/Cell Biology/Sciences or a related discipline, with at least 2 years’ experience working in a teaching, research or diagnostic laboratory. Applicants shall be organized, flexible and attentive to detail. Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua) is required. Experience in animal handling would be an advantage. Possession of valid Hong Kong driving license and the certificate of Competency for Boilers and Pressure Vessels Ordinance – Class III Electrical Boiler is preferred.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
