Two HK Tech 300 start-up teams won the champion and the second runner-up in the Hong Kong Chapter of “Maker in China” SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest 2021. Both teams were supported by seed funding from HK Tech 300, a large-scale flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme launched by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in March, with an allocation of HK$500 million.

Following its earlier announcement of the launch of the flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme “HK Tech 300” with an allocation of HK$500 million, City University of Hong Kong (CityU) held today (29 July) the HK Tech 300 Seed Fund Presentation Ceremony, presenting seed funds with the total sum of HK$6.5 million.

Dr Lee Kai-fu, an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration from City University of Hong Kong (CityU), a world-renowned AI expert, and Chairman and CEO of Sinovation Ventures, delivered a talk, titled “How AI will Transform the World”, in the latest CityU Distinguished Lecture Series on 16 July.

To help students, alumni, and researchers transform their ideas into start-ups, CityU launched HK Tech 300, a large flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme in March 2021, with an investment of HK$500 million. HK Tech 300 aspires to be the No. 1 university-based entrepreneurship platform in Asia, creating 300 start-ups in three years.

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) encourages research and innovation. By translating new knowledge and discoveries into applications, CityU contributes to the development of society. Recently, CityU shone again in the top 100 worldwide universities granted US utility patents by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). CityU ranked 51st in the world on the list, the highest position in the University’s history, and top among local universities for the fifth consecutive year, reflecting the effort CityU has put into promoting innovation and invention.
