City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) held the HK Tech 300 National Start-up Competition (National Competition) 3rd Awards Ceremony and Launch of the 4th Competition today (16 July). Ten outstanding start-ups earned top honours among over 500 entries from Hong Kong and 12 Chinese Mainland cities for their innovations in new materials, digital health, semiconductors, AI and robotics. The 4th Competition will expand its footprint, raising the total number of competition clusters nationwide from 12 to 16.

CityUHK today (19 May) launched the “Future City Index 2025” (CityUHK FCI), the world’s first city-level benchmarked report assessing the long-term development capabilities of 100 global cities across education, technology, talents, and finance. 

To address the fire risks of lithium batteries, as well as the bulky size and limited power capacity of lead-acid batteries, a research team from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has been awarded funding under the second batch of the “RAISe+ Scheme” to develop the next generation of aqueous zinc-based batteries that offer improved safety, higher power, lower cost and environmental sustainability. The team aims to establish a production line with an annual capacity of 1 GWh over three years. This breakthrough addresses large-scale energy storage challenges, providing future data centres with ideal backup power and improving the safe operation of AI facilities in Hong Kong and global markets.

Three distinguished scholars and their research teams from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), through groundbreaking achievements in AI, robotics, new materials, new energy, and electrical and electronic engineering, have been awarded grants under the third batch of the “Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One-plus Scheme (RAISe+ Scheme)” of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
