On 25 August 2025, the Department of Biomedical Science (BMS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), in collaboration with the National Center of Technology Innovation for Biopharmaceuticals – Hong Kong Branch (NCTIB – HK) and supported by the Theme Based Research Scheme project “Single-Cell Multi-Omics Study of Atherosclerotic Vascular Disease: Narrowing the Gap Between Bench and Bedside”, successfully hosted a symposium on genome editing and clinical applications, focusing on liver and cardiovascular diseases. The event took place on the CityUHK campus and was attended by faculty, researchers, and students.
Distinguished speakers included Prof. Man Fung Yuen, Chair Professor and Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation Professor in Medicine at The University of Hong Kong; Prof. Wensheng Wei, Director of the Genome Editing Research Centre at Peking University; Prof. Yu Huang, Chair Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Vascular Biology Jeanie Hu Professorship in Biomedical Sciences at CityUHK; and Prof. Guisheng Zhong from ShanghaiTech University.
The symposium also introduced the founding members of the Hong Kong Society of Genome Editing Innovation (HKGEI) to foster collaboration and innovation. It successfully promoted engaging discussions and networking while highlighting Hong Kong’s pioneering research in liver and cardiovascular diseases and gene editing.
