Professor Wang Jiangyu Invited by the Department of Justice to Deliver Lecture for Chinese Enterprises Going Global
Professor WANG Jiangyu, Associate Dean of the School of Law at City University of Hong Kong, was invited by the Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Office (HKILTTO) of the Department of Justice (“DoJ”) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to serve as a speaker at the “Legal Practical Training Course for Chinese Enterprises Going Overseas” held in Hong Kong in October 2026.
At the programme, Professor Wang delivered a lecture entitled “New Challenges and Dynamics Faced by Chinese Enterprises Going Global.” His presentation examined the evolving legal, regulatory, compliance, and geopolitical environment confronting Chinese enterprises in their overseas operations and investments. The session addressed emerging trends in international economic regulation, geopolitics, sanctions and export controls, sustainability requirements, investment screening mechanisms, and corporate compliance strategies in an increasingly complex global business environment.

The training programme brought together over 30 general counsel and senior legal officers from leading Chinese enterprises recommended by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) alongside around 20 legal practitioners and scholars from Hong Kong and overseas, including Central Asia and the Americas, as well as representatives from the World Bank Group. DoJ conveyed its appreciation for Professor Wang’s contribution, noting that participants found his presentation comprehensive, insightful, and thought-provoking, and that practical perspectives shared during the session significantly enriched the learning experience of participants in the programme.

Professor Wang’s participation reflects the School of Law’s commitment to knowledge transfer and professional service. Through engagement with government agencies, industry stakeholders, and enterprises, the School contributes academic expertise to addressing real-world legal and policy challenges. In particular, supporting Chinese enterprises in navigating legal, compliance, and geopolitical risks overseas has become increasingly important amidst profound changes in the global economic and regulatory landscape.
In this context, Hong Kong, as an international legal and financial centre, is uniquely positioned to serve as a platform linking professional expertise with the international development needs of Chinese enterprises. Professor Wang’s contribution to this training programme demonstrates the valuable role that Hong Kong’s legal community and academic institutions can play in enhancing the capacity of Chinese enterprises to operate confidently, compliantly, and sustainably in overseas markets.
