Delving into the realm of sustainable fuel and chemical synthesis within the context of transitioning towards a greener energy landscape, Professor James Durrant captivated audiences during his recent lecture at the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) on 22 January 2025, as part of the esteemed CityUHK Distinguished Visiting Professor Lecture series.
Prof. Fatwa F. Abdi, an Associate Professor from SEE, has been awarded a 3-year research grant from the French National Research Agency (ANR) / Research Grants Council (RGC) Joint Research Scheme, with a total funding amount of HKD 1.7 million. In the current 2024/25 exercise, Prof. Abdi is the only recipient from CityUHK to receive the ANR/RGC Joint Research Scheme Grant.

From December 27th to 30th, 2024, Prof. Michael LEUNG led a delegation, including PhD students and post-doctoral researchers from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), to meet with the Changzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and several prestigious enterprises. Prof. Sai Kishore Ravi has been elected as a Lifetime Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) in recognition of his significant contributions to materials research, particularly in biohybrid materials and artificial photosynthesis.
Prof. Lin Zhang and his team published a paper titled “Energy-poverty-inequality SDGs: A large-scale household analysis and forecasting in China”, was published in the scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). Affordable and clean energy is one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7). Researchers at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) discovered that transitioning to clean cooking fuels can significantly promote multiple SDGs, including poverty elimination (SDG 1) and reduced inequality (SDG 10).
We are thrilled to announce that SOLAR.E Tech LIMITED, led by Prof. Wei Wu (Co-founder and Technological Advisor) and his PhD student Fuxiang Li (Co-founder and CEO), has been shortlisted for the HK Tech 300 Angel Fund (10th cohort). Under the supervision of Prof. WU Wei, postdoc Dr. DING Zhixiong and PhD student Mr. LI Fuxiang from the School of Energy and Environment won the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 2nd International Conference on Energy Engineering (ICEE 2024), held from 29 Nov to 02 Dec 2024. Dr. DING Zhixiong’s presentation was entitled “A Novel Two-stage Energy Storage Heat Transformer with Low Charging Temperature for High-Temperature Lift.” Mr.
On 2 December 2024, a team led by our esteemed Associate Dean (Internationalization and Outreach), Prof. Edwin Tso, and including SEE alumnus Mr. Cheung Tim Yiu, received the Silver Award for the Electricity-free Cooling Technology developed by i2Cool Limited. This technology startup was incubated by City University of Hong Kong's HK Tech 300 and recognized at the Hong Kong Green Innovations Award (HKGIA).
