Level 1: Basic Training in Fintech Fundamentals

Learning outcome: understand what finance is and where the industry is heading.
Topics include: the role and evolution of finance in history, culture, and society; introduction to banking, central banks, and international infrastructure; overview of modern macroeconomics; the challenges of the financial industry and unresolved issues until now.

Learning outcome: understand the breadth and depth of fintech.
Topics include: major areas of fintech, such as money and payments, digital finance, alternative finance; major technological trends, such as artificial intelligence (especially machine learning) blockchain, cryptography, and data sciences (big data, data analytics, data modelling, etc); fintech regulation and regulatory technologies (regtech); impact of fintech on economies, markets, companies, and individuals.

Learning outcome: understand the role of major technological trends, such as artificial intelligence (especially machine learning) blockchain, cryptography, and data sciences (big data, data analytics, data modelling, etc).
Topics include: data, metadata, and differential privacy, regulatory scope from KYC to KYD; AI and blockchain governance; institutionalisation versus decentralisation, the business of trust.

Learning outcome: understand the important fintech initiatives from the government and the industry.
Topics include: central bank digital currency (CBDC), corporate data interchange (CDI), corporate identity, digital insurance policies, straight-through processing insurtech (insurance technology).

This tutorial session is for students to ask the training team about any topics covered during the Level 1 basic training regimen. Guest speakers may participate in these sessions.

Training Timetable

All the core courses and tutorials will be held Tuesdays and Fridays at 7pm HKT. Instructors may stay behind to answer additional questions. Although most courses finish in 2 hours, some courses may run overtime.
