Experience CityU’s professional education on virtual Information Day

The virtual Information Day of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will be held on 24 October 2020 (Saturday). Students accessing CityU’s online platform can learn about the University’s latest programme developments, with details such as a new initiative to further nurture elite students and a series of BOLD forums involving several hot topics, hosted by CityU scholars.

To nurture high-calibre students and address their advanced learning needs, a new initiative will be implemented for the 2021/22 academic year, offering a variety of programme options and mentorship schemes for students with excellent public examination results and well-performing Year 1 students.

The programme options include a four-year bachelor’s and master’s degree programme, a five-year double-degree programme, entry to the Joint Bachelor’s Degree Programme in collaboration with world-renowned universities, including Columbia University, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Manchester, and a four-year double-major programme.

In addition to the new Joint Bachelor’s Degree Programme mentioned above, CityU launched a similar kind of programme in collaboration with National Taiwan University and Leuphana University Lüneburg in Germany. Students with outstanding academic performance will have the opportunity to study two years at CityU and another two years at the collaborating university. They will be awarded two bachelor’s degrees, one from CityU and the other from the partner university when they fulfil their four-year study requirements.

Through the webpage www.cityu.edu.hk/infoday, students can access admission talks and a programme introduction via the videos presented by the College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science, Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, School of Creative Media, School of Data Science, School of Energy and Environment, and School of Law. Students can also look at the campus facilities and download programme information.

CityU launched a series of powerful talks with rich content, named the BOLD Forum, by 13 notable CityU scholars, including Professor Way Kuo, University President. He shared his insights on data-driven management of societal health, which can be viewed via the webpage. The BOLD Forum topics cover a rich range of popular subjects such as public health, data science, biomedical sciences, the environment, business, law, the humanities and social sciences, art and creativity, and electronic engineering.

BOLD stands for “Be Original, Leading Discovery”, and the initiative aims to inspire students to engage in knowledge discovery and support their academic planning through a lively and engaging learning experience.

On virtual Information Day, students can also learn about the government-funded Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) programme and other programmes, including the popular Bachelor of Science in Data Science (BSc Data Science) programme. The six-year BVM programme was developed in collaboration with Cornell University in the US. Students are admitted via JUPAS starting from the 2019/20 entry. In response to increasing demand for data scientists and engineers, the University launched the first School of Data Science in Hong Kong and the BSc Data Science programme to nurture professionals for related fields.
