Dear Colleagues: I’ve been working for CityU for more than eight years. During this time, I’ve felt that the University has gone through many changes except, that is, for our bilingual staff newsletter, Linkage, or Ling Ji (靈機)in Chinese. Linkage is of course about connecting colleagues at different departments and levels by means of its publication and has nothing to do with “having a sudden inspiration”, as the Chinese Ling Ji suggests in the Chinese idiom “ling ji yi dong”.

CityU's Wireless Communications Research Centre celebrated its 10th anniversary with the opening of the Near Field Antenna Measurement Chamber, 24 June. Jointly sponsored by the Research Grants Council (RGC), HKSAR, and CityU, the HK$5 million Chamber accurately monitors the performance of antennas for mobile communications, thus advancing innovative antenna R&D capacity in Hong Kong.

CityU President, Professor H K Chang, and Professor Zhu Qingshi, President of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding, 13 June, to jointly establish a high level, joint research centre in Suzhou. The Centre will advance CityU’s research base into the booming Yangtze River Delta environs.

In a move to further promote CityU's provision of professional training and development programmes to meet the needs of the region, in particular the mainland, the CityU Professional Services Ltd establishes the CityU Professional Development Centre in June to facilitate development in this area.
