Consul General of Singapore in Hong Kong visits CityU

Mr Ong Siew Gay, the Consul General of Singapore in Hong Kong, led a delegation to visit City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 10 October. During the visit, Mr Ong met with Professor Freddy Boey Yin Chiang, CityU President, to explore collaboration opportunities between Singapore and CityU. He also talked with a group of students to share his views on the ties between Singapore and Hong Kong.

Mr Ong was joined by Mr Victor Hui Kok Wing, Consul (Political), and Ms Phoebe Yim, Senior Lead Analyst of the Consulate General of the Republic of Singapore in Hong Kong.

President Boey extended a warm welcome to the delegation led by Mr Ong. He highlighted CityU’s leading role among local universities in research, innovation and entrepreneurship. He also emphasised the importance of the Singaporean community at CityU.

CityU has been collaborating with prestigious universities in Singapore, including the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, Singapore University of Technology and Design, and LaSalle College of the Arts on various fronts.

“CityU has close ties with Singapore and the Singaporean community in Hong Kong. CityU will continue to explore more opportunities for collaboration with Singapore in various areas including education, research, culture, as well as innovation and technology,” he said.

Mr Ong shared his insights into various topics at a fireside chat with a group of students.

 

Mr Ong said: “I am pleased to meet CityU President and fellow Singaporean Professor Boey and receive a briefing on CityU’s latest projects and development plans in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.”

During his visit, Mr Ong also met with Professor Wen Jung Li, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy) at CityU, Professor Richard Walker, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Professor Mark Thompson, Director of the Southeast Asia Research Centre, who co-hosted a fireside chat with the Consul General and with a group of students.

Mr Ong shared his insights into various topics including the relationships between Singapore and Hong Kong, the future development direction of Singapore in terms of housing and sustainable development policy, as well as the economic developments between the two cities with students at the fireside chat.

The delegation visited the Indra and Harry Banga Gallery and the State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves after the meetings to learn more about CityU’s cultural ambience and research capabilities in communications technology.
