Three illustrious persons will be conferred the title of Honorary Fellow by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) at a ceremony in September in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of, and service to, CityU and the community.

They are Mr Chan Yung, BBS, JP, Mr Dominic Pang Yat-ting and Professor Tinly Wong Tin-chee.

Mr Chan Yung, a senior registered social worker and Legislative Council member, holds a number of public roles, including serving as an HKSAR deputy to the National People's Congress and as a member of the ICAC Advisory Committee on Corruption.

He has actively participated in public and community service, as a member of the All-China Youth Federation, the Lantau Development Advisory Committee, the North District Council, the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, and the Commission on Youth.

Mr Chan is an alumnus of CityU. He has energetically supported the University for many years as a member of the Court; the Departmental Advisory Committee of the Department of Applied Social Studies (renamed the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences); as Vice-Chairman of the CityU Eminence Society, a senior alumni association; and as Convenor of the Alumni Ambassador Scheme Advisory Committee.

The HKSAR Government appointed Mr Chan a Justice of the Peace in 2011. In 2014, he received the Bronze Bauhinia Star in recognition of his participation in public affairs and his contribution to the development of Hong Kong.

Mr Dominic Pang, Chairman and Executive Director of Asia Allied Infrastructure Holdings Limited, has extensive experience in property development in Hong Kong. He has also served as the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Hong Kong Real Property Federation since 2019.

He graduated from Columbia University in New York with a Bachelor of Arts degree, with majors in Economics, Political Science and Mathematics. He has a Juris Doctor degree from the School of Law at New York University and an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Kellogg-HKUST.

Mr Pang is a Council Member of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Vocational Training Council, and was a Council Member of CityU. He has enthusiastically participated in public service in Hong Kong and the mainland, and has been a member and a 12th Standing Committee member of Hebei Provincial Committee of the CPPCC. He is currently Vice-President of the Belt & Road General Chamber of Commerce and a non-executive director of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority.

Professor Tinly Wong is the Executive Director of Wong To Yick Wood Lock Ointment Limited, Founder and Executive Director of Herbalgy Pharmaceutical Limited, and a registered practitioner of Chinese medicine. He is also the Founding Director of the Hong Kong T.C.M. Orthopaedic & Traumatic Charity Development Foundation and the Community Med Care Clinic.

In 1991, severe flooding in eastern China prompted Professor Wong to start up his own philanthropic work. He visited the affected area and established the Caring for Children Foundation, which launched an education programme aimed at building schools and offering mental health counselling services on the mainland. Later, the Invision Charity Foundation was established to nurture youngsters. Professor Wong has also generously donated to CityU, setting up exchange scholarships to benefit students.

Professor Wong encourages his family to donate to CityU, too. To show our appreciation for this high level of support, the University named Lecture Theatre 401 in the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Complex the Herbalgy Lecture Theatre and Lecture Theatre 17 in the Yeung Kin Man Academic Building the Wong To Yick Tong Lecture Theatre.
