Alumni event highlights “the positivity of humour”

Around 250 City University of Hong Kong (CityU) alumni spent a delightful evening on 16 January at the first Happy Hour Gathering organised by the Alumni Relations Office (ARO).

The Happy Hour Gathering Series is a new initiative in which alumni guests from different professions or with special talents will be invited to share their insights and experiences. In the first gathering, Mr Vivek Ashok Mahbubani, CityU School of Creative Media alumnus and a celebrated stand-up comedian, was invited to share on  “The Positivity of Humour”.

The kick-off ceremony was officiated by Professor Way Kuo, President, Professor Roderick Wong Sue-cheun, Vice-President (Development and External Relations), and Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Alumni Relations).

In his welcoming remarks, Professor Kuo reported on the latest developments at CityU, including the university’s fundraising performance and progress in the establishment of the School of Veterinary Medicine. “I am proud of the University and grateful to the alumni for their continuous support and contribution,” he said.

In his sharing, Mr Mahbubani said viewing things from a different angle can create positive energy. For example, he would look for humorous elements in a situation―even challenging situations—and find something amusing in it.

During their interactions with Mr Mahbubani, the audience learned how to acquire positive energy from humour and see the brighter side of life.
