A university-wide appeal by the President, Professor H K Chang (right), encouraging CityU staff and students to support the "We Care Education Fund" received an overwhelming response. In just two weeks' time, CityU raised HK$280,000 to help those children who lost parents to SARS.

On behalf of the University community, Professor Chang and CityU Students' Union President Mr Kenny Tsang presented a cheque on 30 May to Mrs Fanny Law, Permanent Secretary for Education and Manpower, an initiator of the Fund.

Mrs Law thanked CityU for its generous contributions and support, remarking that the outpouring of love and concern was genuinely touching. "CityU is part of society. What society cares about, so does the University," responded the President. "Through this campus-wide donation campaign, our staff and students demonstrated a spirit of solidarity, compassion and care for our community. I am deeply impressed by their effort and enthusiasm shown in this meaningful event. Also, I'd like to express my heartfelt wishes for the bereaved children."

The "We Care Education Fund" campaign at CityU continues. Staff and students can still contribute by filling in the donation form (for staff use) or dropping money in the collection boxes around campus, by 11 June. Act now!
