President honoured by Hong Kong SAR

Professor H K Chang, City University of Hong Kong's President and University Professor, was awarded a Gold Bauhinia Star by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) at the 2002 Honours and Awards Presentation Ceremony held at Government House on 12 October.

 

Professor Chang was among 17 Gold Bauhinia Star recipients out of 294 on this year' Honours List. Professor Chang was honoured for his outstanding contribution to the development of higher education as well as the promotion of arts and culture in Hong Kong. Speaking after the ceremony, Professor Chang said it as a great honour to be awarded the

Gold Bauhinia Star. He said he would continue to dedicate himself to the advancement and prosperity of Hong Kong.

 

A world-renowned biomedical engineer and a foreign member of the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), Professor Chang joined CityU in 1996. Under his leadership, CityU has embarked on a number of major initiatives which saw a marked improvement in the academic profile and international standing of the institution.

 

Professor Chang has served as Chairman of the Culture and Heritage Commission, an appointment by the Hong Kong SAR Government since 1 April 2000. In October 2000, he received France's highest honour, the Chevalier dans l'Ordre National de la Legion d'Honneur.
