Committed to enhancing foundational education, the Tin Ka Ping Foundation works to expand access and opportunities for underserved communities. Mr Tin Wing-sin, Chairman of the Board, upholds this enduring principle, ensuring the Foundation's educational undertakings evolve in response to society's changing needs, while remaining faithful to his late father's vision.

Founded by the late Dr Tin Ka-ping in 1982, the Tin Ka Ping Foundation has actively expanded its philanthropic efforts across Chinese Mainland, supporting over 300 universities, secondary schools, primary schools, and vocational institutions nationwide. Dr Tin initiated a governance transformation in 2010, inviting the presidents of nine local universities, distinguished academics, and community leaders to participate in governance-related matters. This strategic shift marked the transition from a family-centric governance model to one characterised by institutional, professional, and corporate governance, laying out a professional development blueprint aimed at elevating the quality of education in China and contributing to the Nation's progress.

Mr Tin takes pride in the substantial achievements realised through the Foundation's work. The Foundation's donations have reached people from all walks of life, with a special focus on supporting those most in need. Mr Tin was particularly moved to support a programme designed for prison inmates. This initiative aimed to recognise inmates as vital members of society. It offers financial assistance and essential emotional support, empowering inmates to rebuild their self-worth ahead of their reintegration into society when they are released.

Dr Yuen Pong-yiu, Executive Chairman of the Board, highlighted significant outcomes from the Foundation's work. He cited the "Teach Future China" project in Yunnan, which recruits and trains graduates to volunteer as teachers in rural schools, helping to improve educational outcomes for less-privileged children. Dr Yuen also noted synergies within the Foundation's extensive network of over 200 schools. He pointed out that collaborative partnerships with teacher-training colleges have enhanced teaching standards at the schools in China.

Since 2003, the Foundation has continuously supported CityUHK by funding initiatives that promote moral education, Chinese culture, and global integration. Projects like the "Mainland Scholars Exchange Programme" and the "Chinese Cultural Heritage Project" foster the promotion of Chinese culture. In recognition of the Foundation's generous support, CityUHK named the Tin Ka Ping Lecture Theatre in 2004 and established the Tin Ka Ping Education Fund in 2008.

Dr Yuen emphasised that CityUHK's leadership in higher education development and internationalisation aligns with the Foundation's mission to integrate world civilisations for the purpose of enhancing the quality of education. Furthermore, the Foundation strongly advocates for STEM and Al education, sponsoring a two-year AI programme at CityUHK aimed at cultivating responsible Al literacy among junior secondary students, which prepares them for an ever-evolving future.

Looking ahead, Mr Tin stresses the importance of resilience and self-esteem in youth development. He quoted Eleanor Roosevelt, former First Lady of the United States: "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." Mr Tin encourages young people to cultivate strong personal qualities and face life's challenges with confidence.
