CityUHK congratulates first Hong Kong payload expert on participating in Shenzhou-23
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) warmly congratulates Dr Lai Ka-ying on making history as the first Hong Kong specialist to join the Shenzhou-23 crew for a six-month space station mission. This monumental achievement highlights the brilliant success of the country’s aerospace industry and marks a significant milestone for Hong Kong’s scientific research talent within the national development framework.
CityUHK has consistently promoted scientific research and innovation, maintaining close cooperation with the national aerospace sector. In May 2023, CityUHK signed a cooperation agreement with the China Resources Research Institute of Science and Technology (CRRI) and the Shenzhou Space Biotechnology Group to jointly conduct space scientific experiments. Notably, samples of new cartilage repair materials under a CityUHK research project were successfully carried aboard the Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft to the space station for testing, demonstrating the breakthrough application of its scientific research achievements.
High-Fidelity Lunar Regolith Simulant: Laying a Solid Foundation for Lunar Exploration
Concurrently, CityUHK has received funding from the Innovation and Technology Commission of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to launch a research project, titled “High-Fidelity Lunar Regolith Simulant: Laying a Solid Foundation for Lunar Exploration”, providing crucial support for future lunar exploration.
Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering
To nurture professionals in the aerospace sector, CityUHK has offered the Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering programme since 2021. This programme is dedicated to training the next generation of scientific research professionals.
Looking ahead, CityUHK will continue to align closely with the National 15th Five-Year Plan and focus on the goal of scientific and technological self-reliance. The University remains committed to serving the country’s needs and helping Hong Kong integrate more deeply into the overall development of the country through scientific research, innovation and talent cultivation.
