CityUHK has entered the global top 100 for the first time in the recently announced 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by the higher education evaluation agency ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, ranking 99th worldwide and second in Hong Kong. CityUHK is also the second university in Hong Kong to enter the top 100 since the ranking was established in 2003.

The GRAS was first published by ShanghaiRanking in 2017. It includes rankings for universities in 57 subjects across the Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences. The rankings utilise a range of objective academic indicators under five evaluation categories to measure the performance of world universities in their respective subjects, including World-Class Faculty, World-Class Output, High-Quality Research, Research Impact and International Collaboration. This year, the rankings encompassed over 3,000 universities worldwide, with approximately 2,000 universities from about 92 countries and regions appearing on the lists in various disciplines.
