CityUHK holds flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China
The ceremony, held at University Circle this morning, was attended by about 200 guests and members of the University community, including Dr Jeff Sze Chun-fai, Under Secretary for Education of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People’s Republic of China, Dr Chung Shui-ming, Pro-Chancellor of the Council of CityUHK, Mr Michael Ngai, Council Chairman, Ms Lilian Chiang Sui-fook, Deputy Chairman of the Council, Mr Charles Chin Ying-on, Treasurer of the Council, and Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor. Mr Ngai and President Boey presided over the flag-raising ceremony.
Also present were Council Members Mr David Ho Chi-hoo, Mr Joseph Tse Lap-bun, Mr Justin Wong Tak-ho, Mr Rex Wong Siu-han, Mr Eugene Fong Yick-jin, Mr Edward Ho Man-tat, Dr Raymond Leung Siu-hong, Mr Robert Lui Chi-wang, Ms Grace Yu Ho-wun, Mr William Khoo Wun-fat, Professor Ray Cheung Chak-chung, Professor Wang Jianping, and Mr Li Guangda. Additionally, Court Members Dr Gary Cheng Faat-ting, Dr Andrew Fan Ka-fai, Dr Emmie Ho Ngai-man, Professor Albert Ip Yuk-keung; Members of CityUHK Foundation Board of Governors Mr Lau Tat-chuen and Ms Cissy Wong Ying were in attendance, along with senior management, including Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President; Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise); Professor Anderson Shum Ho-cheung, Vice-President (Research); Professor Kevin Downing, Secretary to the Council; Professor Li Wen Jung, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy); Professor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement); and Miss Maggie Chau, Vice-President (Administration).
During the ceremony, CityUHK’s student flag-raising team raised the national flag alongside the HKSAR flag and CityUHK flag. The ceremony brought the CityUHK community together to celebrate National Day and inspired the participants to actively seize opportunities arising from national development and contribute to the nation’s future.
CityUHK has actively supported the Government of the HKSAR’s promotion of the “Study in Hong Kong” brand and is committed to developing Hong Kong into an international hub for higher education. The University will continue to expand its global connections while creating a diverse learning environment for its students, leveraging China’s strong support, its base in Hong Kong and global connectivity, to equip its students to become future leaders with a global vision.
Additionally, CityUHK (Dongguan), which opened last year, will inject new momentum into nurturing talent and fostering the development of an international innovation and technology centre in the Greater Bay Area. CityUHK will continue to maintain close partnerships with top universities and research institutions in the Chinese Mainland, fostering academic and research collaboration to contribute to nurturing the talent needed for national development.
