CityU has become the world’s first university to manufacture self-designed electron microscopes (EMs), which provides measurements and analysis at the micro-nano, and even the atomic scale. The miniaturisation of high-end instruments is an inevitable trend in industrial development. The research team in CityU’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering has pioneered advanced technology and designed pulsed electron sources and a fast camera that can be used with a desktop EM. In addition, the team designed an aberration corrector that further improves imaging resolution. The desktop EM can be produced at a lower cost than traditional EMs. 
 
Professor Chen Fu-Rong, Chair Professor of Materials Engineering in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Director of the Futian Research Institute, and Director of the Time-Resolved Aberration-Corrected Environmental EM Unit at CityU, will explain the technology and its applications with a demonstration.
