A research team led by Dr Eric Wong Wing-ming, Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), with technical support from SmarTone, has developed a new technology that can optimise mobile network design and reduce the energy consumption of base stations. The team estimates that with this technology, the energy saved per year will provide thousands of households with electricity. It is also estimated that the energy consumption of the base stations will increase incessantly. To tackle this problem, the CityU team will continue to conduct research to enhance the application of this newly developed technology.
The CityU team will introduce the results of the research at the press conference.
