Event: Press conference on brain research conducted by CityU to improve decision-making performance
Date: 6 September 2018 (Thursday)
Time: 2:00pm
Venue: B6605, 6/F, Blue Zone (Lift 3), Yeung Kin Man Academic Building, CityU
Decision making is a key cognitive function. Illnesses such as chronic pain, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer's disease can reduce decision-making performance.
Professor Li Ying, of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and his team conducted research to investigate the effect of chronic pain on cognitive disorders and how it can be mitigated. They discovered a chemical substance in the brain that can help improve decision-making performance. The lack of this substance may be one of the factors in cognitive deficit resulting from chronic pain.
The research findings were published recently in Cell Report, a prestigious international life sciences journal. Professor Li will introduce his research and elaborate on the findings at the briefing.
